Il canto di Salomone
The Song of Solomon the Song of Songs is a book from the Old Testament of the Bible, distinguished by its poetic and romantic content. The text, often attributed to King Solomon, tells the intense love story between two lovers, expressing feelings of desire, passion, and mutual commitment. Poetic images, such as blooming gardens and vineyards, are used to describe the intimacy and beauty of the relationship. While the Song of Songs can be interpreted as a celebration of human love, some interpretations also view it as a symbol of divine love between God and His people. In any case, the text is remarkable for its literary beauty and for representing an interesting intersection between the profane and the sacred in the Bible.
The choice of the program aims to explore a small part of the vast musical production of the 17th century inspired by fragments of the Song of Songs. The primary objective is to convey through music the power of the words and emotions present in this biblical text. The proposed order of the pieces follows the sequence of the sacred poem, highlighting who among the lovers is speaking and distinguishing, when present, the role of the Chorus in commenting on and amplifying the expressive emotions of the narrative.
